Edgy Teen Star of Project Runway Junior Designs & Creates to Success

Lifetime’s Project Runway it making it work once again…with Project Runway Junior. A whole host of teens have been selected to debut their collections, win challenges, and put themselves into the eye of the fashion public.

17 year old Matt Sarafa from Manhattan Beach, California, is already knocking out the fashion world. I had the opportunity to sit down with Matt and discuss his collection, his causes, and why we all want to be best friends with Tim Gunn.

“After working on Threads, a Project Runway special, I had the opportunity to audition for Project Runway Junior and was selected- I was ecstatic beyond belief! We filmed over the summer in New York, and it was so inspiring,” Matt enthuses. “Seeing the actual workroom- it was so crazy to see that space!”

Matt knew fashion was his calling after watching Project Runway at 7 with his mom. Turning his artistic side to creative sewing skills learned from his grandmother, Matt sought all education to perfect his technique. “I was inspired by the show to create.” He began a YouTube channel with fashion and makeup tutorials, which led the way to the show.

"The show has helped me grow as a designer and I've learned so much." The show challenges debuted Matt’s style of edgy and avant-garde styles. “I love created upscale and edgy looks using fabrics such as velvet, which not many designers use, plus faux leather, faux fur, fabrics with lots of texture,” he explains.

What was it like working with the ever-awesome Tim Gunn? “I love Tim! He is just like in real life as he is on the show- I want to be his best friend (us too, Matt!). “I learned so much from his critiques and advice.”

As with Project Runway, the young designers had one full day each to completes their challenges and create unique fashion wear. “We were all over NYC- it was fantastic. And I was pleasantly surprised working with everyone- I was here to win and not make friends, but working together all day in the workroom, spending so much time together, everyone was great, we really bonded and life-ling friendships were formed,” Matt says.

The show is fueled by the young designers’ passion for their craft and for their designs and their collections. Matt’s innovative style is inspired by Alexander McQueen, Jean Paul Gaultier and Versace, where he is creating a streetwear-style collection with unique materials and textiles.

Matt is in his final year of high school and debating his next educational steps- he’s spending time designing, collaborating, working with local charities and causes that are very important to him such as LGBT youth and the gay community. Matt loves giving back working with charities such as LifeWorld, Children's Hospital LA and the Pink Lotus Foundation. Matt also worked with Project Nunway, an annual drag queen charity fashion show where designers are paired with Sisters to create a high fashion look from recycled materials.

Matt’s motto is why fit in when you can stand out- something I think everyone should fully embrace!

Mentored by Emmy Award winner Tim Gunn and co-hosted by supermodel Hannah Davis, the judging panels include Kelly Osbourne, designer Christian Siriano and executive fashion editor at Cosmopolitan and Seventeen Magazine Aya Kanai. The inaugural season also features celebrity guest appearances by Bella Thorne and First Lady Michelle Obama. Watch as these young designers rock the runway in Project Runway Junior!

The Struggle is Real...to Find Waterproof Wide Calf Boots

The Struggle is Real

Every day, I spend my lunch break looks for boots online. I had wonderful rain boots once..i live din NYC and discovered this site called one stop plus..because even though I'm curvy, I am a plus girl.

I found wide calf purple plaid wellies for 59.99. I worn these to fashion week. I wore them to work. I wore then hiking in the rain, snow, and mud. They finally passed away in 2014.

RIP Burgundy Plaid Boots. I miss you.

And now I can’t find another pair like it.

I have huge clunky gardening rain boots from Target for $7 that fit my calf. I'm curvy. I'm not huge. For some reason, hundreds upon thousands of boots are made for calves that are say, 10 inches…and wide calf boots are 15”.  Not even close, bitches.

And even if I pay 150$ for wide calf snow boots., now they are HUGE!!!! Clunky. Heavy. Hot.

But I wear normal sizes, clothes, and boots. And I have a ton of awesome boots I wear daily.
IT'S THE WATERPROOF ONES I AM HAVING ISSUES WITH!

Why is this so prevalent.  Why can’t I find a boot that will compliment my dresses, my skirts, keep my feet dry and cost under $100? Why won’t they fit me. I work out. I’m not skinny, but all my clothes fit me. My shoes fit me. Why can’t I find boots to fit me?!

Does anyone out there know why!?!?

And more to the point…can anyone get me a wide calf cute rain/waterproof boot that fits a 17” calf?

If you got a pair for me, I’ll do all I can to sing your praises!

ANYONE ELSE HAVE THIS ISSUE?!

Date Night at Salon Rosa M in Narberth- Get Groomed and Go on a Date!

Date Night was held on October 23, 2015 at Salon Rosa M in Narberth, PA from 5-8 pm.

The event was an opportunity for couples to experience light grooming sessions by the salon’s founder and owner, Rosa Martinez and both of her full time stylists Melissa Lynne and Jessica Pileggi. Services included blow-outs and makeup touch ups for women or a light “shave and a haircut” for men.

In addition to grooming guests sampled local batches of expertly crafted Rye Whiskey compliments of Dad’s Hat. For those who were not Whiskey connoisseurs the salon served up wine and other lite beverage refreshments. Fat Jack’s BBQ provided lite fare for guest sampling including several varieties of their famous chicken wings and hearty chili.

While waiting for their grooming sessions with stylists or as they mingled afterwards, guests were also privy to a trunk show put on by the Hope Chest. Fabulous and fun lingerie and other toys were available for sale all evening.

To stay informed about future events at Salon Rosa M please visit the website or call the salon at 610-771-9900. Additionally, you can connect via Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter.
