A generous group of beauty industry insiders, Main Line
residents and other local business owners came together on Sunday 3/6 to
celebrate the 3rd anniversary of Salon Rosa M as well as to raise funds to
fight MS!
Each year people look forward to March for exciting changes
like the first day of spring, celebratory fun during holidays like St.
Patrick’s Day and in many areas of the world, more sunshine with daylight
savings.
Salon Rosa M gave us yet another reason to be excited about
the month of March this year; an event to celebrate salon owner Rosa Martinez’s
third year of entrepreneurial success, drawing Philadelphia-area residents to
also raise funds for MS awareness. All told the event raised $864. One hundred
percent of these proceeds are being donated to The National MS Society, Greater
Delaware Valley Chapter.
Guests of the event danced the night away to a local DJ,
enjoyed a variety of cocktails and wine as well as light fare from Izenberg’s
Deli, all of which were donated to the event. Photographer Daniel Gonzalez
captured unforgettable moments all night long.
In addition to the suggestion of monetary donations at the
door, guests could also give money through participation in a silent auction
featuring gifts from local businesses including Mc Shea’s Pub, Swan Dancewear,
The Yoga Garden, Masterpieces Fine Art & Custom Framing, Davines Hair
Products and Sanitarium Creations. The walls were beautified with art from
local artists who donated beautiful paintings, drawings and stained glass works
which were also auctioned for the cause.
About Rosa Martinez
and Salon Rosa M
Considering herself first and foremost an artist, Rosa
Martinez completed her high school education at The Philadelphia High School
for Creative and Performing Arts and then went on to pursue her love for
painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and Moore College of Art,
where she was chosen to be a part of Philadelphia’s world-renowned Mural Arts
Program.
During this same time period, while completing her education
in fine art, she also spent time working in retail and as an assistant in a
salon. This juxtaposition of her education and her work in the worlds of
fashion and beauty brought her to the realization that what she really wanted
to do was pursue a career as a hair stylist. Hair would now become her preferred
canvas for expression.
In an effort to achieve this goal, she pursued studies and
licensing in hair at Empire Beauty School, located in downtown Philadelphia,
PA. Upon completing her education and certification as a licensed cosmetologist
in the state of PA, she also went on to pursue specialized training from a
number of high profile beauty programs including the Vidal Sassoon academy in
LA and “Great Lengths” hair extensions.
In 2013, after 20 years’ experience in the worlds of art,
beauty and fashion, she opened Salon Rosa M, in
Narberth, PA. It is here that she found the ideal stage on which to showcase
her many talents on a diverse range of clients. She is a frequent guest on
Philadelphia's NBC 10 and a three time "Best of Philly" winner. Her
work has been featured in Philadelphia Magazine, Brides Magazine, Allure,
SheKnows, and many other high profile print and digital outlets. She has styled
for Stars Network "Magic City" and with Ecru and Amika for NYC based
fashion projects. Her past awards include, “Most Intricate Hair” at City of
Hope’s Hair Ball in Philadelphia as well as “OMC Hair World” in Chicago.
